Leeds United Could Land World Cup Striker. But There’s a Catch.

Leeds United are back in the conversation for Bosnia forward Ermedin Demirovic. The Stuttgart striker just played at the World Cup, and his name is floating around the rumor mill again.

German journalist Dennis Bayer reports that Leeds are “in the mix” for the 28-year-old. So are Juventus and Fenerbahce. So it’s not exactly a clear path for the Whites, but they’re in the room.

What Demirovic Would Bring

He’s not a flashy name. But he’s effective. Demirovic scored nine goals and added five assists in the Bundesliga last season, then earned a spot in Bosnia’s World Cup squad. Stuttgart picked him up from Augsburg in 2024, and he’s been steady if not spectacular.

Daniel Farke likes shopping in Germany. That’s been a pattern. Leeds already brought in Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic this summer, and they’re closing in on goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City. That deal reportedly includes a release clause, which is the price of doing business with City’s academy.

But the forward line is still thin. Dominic Calvert-Lewin carried a lot of the scoring load last season, and Farke clearly wants more options.

The Stuttgart Mess

Here’s where it gets complicated. Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness is willing to sell Demirovic. But there’s disagreement inside the club about cashing in. And the player himself wants to stay. He said earlier this summer that finding a place as good for him as Stuttgart would be tough.

So nothing is simple. If a serious offer lands, that could change things. But right now it’s not a done deal by any stretch.

Leeds are also trimming the roster. Max Wober terminated his contract at Elland Road and signed with Schalke. Winger Largie Ramazani keeps getting linked with Valencia, who want him back in Spain.

The club is about to head off on its preseason tour. All eyes are on whether they make a real push for Demirovic in the next week or two. A World Cup forward with Bundesliga experience and a reasonable price tag? That’s the kind of signing that could make sense. But only if Stuttgart actually lets him go.
