LaMelo Ball is one of the most talented young point guards in the NBA. He’s also, by all available evidence, one of the worst drivers on the planet. And nobody lets him forget it. Least of all his own father.
A video posted on X by Fullcourtpass shows LaVar Ball chatting with his sons LaMelo and Lonzo. LaVar starts by asking what LaMelo is driving these days.
“I know you got like 12 cars man. What you rolling in these days?” LaVar asked.
LaMelo answered that he has a driver now. Lonzo, quick with the joke, yelled “Watch out!” while his dad cracked up.
“He said watch out! Ohh you got a driver? They said you was too busy running into folks, man,” LaVar said, still laughing.
The jokes land because they’re rooted in real, scary history. In February 2026, LaMelo crashed his Hummer into a sedan while making a left turn. Video from the scene shows the front wheel torn off the Hummer. Ball wasn’t hurt. He got out of the truck and left in a Lamborghini.
That wasn’t his first incident, either. He was previously sued after running over the foot of a 12-year-old boy. The mother sought $3.75 million for severe injuries and emotional distress. The case settled out of court. Social media has compiled a whole highlight reel of near-misses and reckless driving moments involving the Timberwolves guard.
So yeah, the family jokes at his expense are totally earned. LaVar isn’t exactly known for holding back, and LaMelo has given him plenty of material.
For fans in Minnesota, the news that LaMelo now has a professional driver might come as a relief. At least this way he’s not navigating those Minneapolis winters behind the wheel himself.
