The Ball brothers have never been shy about roasting each other, and LaMelo just took it to another level.
During a recent appearance on the NBA2KLeague broadcast, Lonzo and LiAngelo were on the set when they decided to call up LaMelo. The question? Which Ball brother is the worst basketball player. LaMelo didn’t hesitate.
“Everyone in that room knows the f***ing answer,” LaMelo said, laughing.
LiAngelo, grinning, shot back: “I know I’m top flight.”
But LaMelo wasn’t done. He turned his aim at Lonzo and dropped a comparison nobody saw coming. “Your sh*t is on some High School Musical type.”
Lonzo, to his credit, took it in stride. “Bro called me Zac Efron,” he said, referencing Efron’s role as Troy Bolton in the Disney franchise.
It’s the kind of sibling banter that reminds you these three grew up in the same house, competing at everything. And LaMelo, as the youngest, clearly has no problem reminding his older brothers where they stand.
Where the Ball Brothers Are Now
LaMelo’s joke came at a good time, because his career is in a new chapter. He was recently traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal that also sent Josh Green to Minnesota. Charlotte got back Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three future pick swaps, and multiple second-rounders.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, LaMelo is fired up about playing alongside Anthony Edwards. “LaMelo Ball is very excited to go play with Anthony Edwards to try to win championships,” Charania said on First Take. “The mandate when you have Anthony Edwards is to try and win every single year. Those two guys, they’re friends, they’ve had communication in the recent past.”
LaMelo still has three seasons left on the five-year, $203.9 million extension he signed with Charlotte in 2023.
Lonzo, meanwhile, is an unrestricted free agent after playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2025–2026 season. He was traded to Utah in February 2026 and waived almost immediately. He hasn’t found a new team yet.
LiAngelo never made it to the NBA with his brothers, but he’s found a different kind of success. His song “Tweaker” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year, and he dropped his debut album “League of My Own” in July 2025. So maybe he wasn’t lying about being “top flight.” Just in a different league.
