Kelsey Mitchell is not just hot right now. She’s historically hot. And the Las Vegas Aces found out the hard way on Sunday.
The Indiana Fever guard dropped 27 points in a 109-75 demolition of the reigning champs at Michelob ULTRA Arena. But the real headline came after the final buzzer: Mitchell has now scored 10 or more points in 38 consecutive games. That breaks a tie with Tamika Catchings, whose 37-game streak from 2003-04 had stood as the franchise record for over two decades.
It’s not just the scoring streak either. Mitchell has piled up at least 25 points in six straight games. That puts her in a group with A’ja Wilson, Tina Charles, Arike Ogunbowale, and Maya Moore — the only other players in WNBA history to do it. Not bad company.
How the Fever Ran Away With It
Caitlin Clark was on a minutes restriction because of her back issue, but it didn’t matter. Mitchell caught fire in the first half, putting up 20 points before the break, and the Fever never looked back. They led by as much as 34 and never trailed all afternoon. Indiana moved to 14-9 with the win. The Aces dropped to 17-7.
The Fever are now 4-1 in their last five, and Mitchell is averaging 25.9 points over the last 10 games. She shot 8-of-16 from the floor, grabbed three boards, dished three assists, and picked up two steals. But she also showed out on defense — according to ESPN Insights, the Aces shot just 2-of-8 with one turnover when Mitchell was the primary defender.
Aliyah Boston chipped in 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Clark managed 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in 24 minutes. It’s the kind of balanced attack that makes you think this team could actually do something in the playoffs.
The Trio Headed to the All-Star Game
Mitchell, Boston, and Clark all got the call for the upcoming All-Star Game in Chicago. The Fever have been dealing with Clark’s injury off and on for a stretch now, but Mitchell and Boston have kept the engine running. Sunday was just the latest reminder that Indiana has more than one star in the backcourt.
The Fever host the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. If Mitchell keeps playing like this, that streak could get a whole lot longer.
