Harry Kane keeps saying he wants to stay at Bayern Munich. But the longer his contract situation drags on, the more interesting it gets.
Negotiations between the striker and the club are expected to kick off in August, according to BILD. Kane’s current deal runs through 2027, and he postponed any serious talk about an extension until after the Club World Cup and his summer vacation. Now it’s go-time, and there are real differences to sort through.
Barcelona is watching. So is Al Hilal. At least one Premier League team has poked around too.
But here’s the thing: Kane’s camp has shut down all outside interest so far. His brother Charlie Kane and his father Pat are handling the negotiations. They’ve been listening to offers from other clubs for months but always told everyone that Bayern gets first crack. That part hasn’t changed.
Money isn’t the problem. The years are.
Bayern normally dial back salaries for players over 30. They’re making an exception here. Kane is set to keep earning around €25 million per season, which is basically what he’s making now. No pay cut. Both sides agree on that part.
The hangup is about time. Bayern wants to extend Kane through 2029. Kane wants to go until 2030. That one extra year matters to him. He’s 33 now and still believes he can play at the highest level. He’s already thinking about the next World Cup with England in 2026, and he wants the security of knowing he’ll be under contract through that whole cycle.
So the gap is one year. That’s not nothing, but it’s also not the kind of gap that kills a deal on its own. The question is whether both sides can land on a compromise or let this thing get messy.
Barcelona is lurking in the background
The Blaugrana have been looking for a top striker for a while. Kane has been on their radar for years. According to the reports out of Germany, his representatives have heard from Barcelona and Al Hilal in recent weeks. The Saudis can offer money that Bayern probably won’t match, but Kane has shown no interest in that move so far.
An English club has also sniffed around. Kane left Tottenham as the club’s all-time leading scorer but hasn’t finished his business in the Premier League. He needs 89 more goals to catch Alan Shearer’s record. If he ever comes back to England, he’d be chasing that mark until the end of his career.
But again: Kane’s people have told everyone no, for now. Bayern is the priority.
Max Eberl and Jan-Christian Dreesen will lead the talks for Bayern. Dreesen was the guy who got the Kane deal done when he came over from Tottenham in the first place. That familiarity might help. Or it might not matter at all if the two sides can’t agree on how long this partnership should last.
Both sides want this wrapped up before the summer window closes. Nobody wants a star striker walking into the season with his future unresolved. That kind of uncertainty bleeds into everything.
