Juventus just wrapped up a fast-moving deal for 19-year-old striker Jeff Ekhator, buying him from Genoa for €16 million plus another €2 million in potential bonuses. The club confirmed the transfer Thursday evening after what sources described as a sprint through the final negotiations over the last 48 hours.
Ekhator, who was born in Genoa to Nigerian parents, made his senior Italy debut just a few weeks ago in June 2026. He turned 19 in November and already has 54 Serie A appearances under his belt. That’s a lot of game time for a kid who only broke into Genoa’s first team full-time in the summer of 2024.
The Financial Breakdown
Because Juventus is publicly traded on the stock exchange, they had to release the exact numbers. Here’s how it shakes out: €16 million spread across three fiscal years, with up to €400,000 in ancillary costs tacked on. The bonus structure maxes out at €2 million, tied to Ekhator hitting certain performance targets down the line.
The club also announced Ekhator signed a contract that keeps him in Turin through June 30, 2031. That’s a long commitment for someone who just turned pro. But the kid has already shown he can hang.
What Ekhator Brings
He’s a center-forward, listed at 6-foot-2 or so, with the kind of physical presence that Juventus has been missing up top. His numbers so far — four goals and one assist in those 54 Serie A matches — don’t jump off the page. But he’s been playing for a mid-table Genoa side that didn’t exactly create a ton of chances for him. Scouts have been high on his movement off the ball and his ability to hold up play, which fits what Juventus wants from a No. 9.
Ekhator came up through Genoa’s youth system, climbed each level, and became a permanent senior squad member in the summer of 2024. He’s represented Italy at every youth level and got that senior cap last month. The kid is still raw but clearly has something the Italian federation sees.
For new Juventus sporting director Giovanni Carnevali, this is the first big move on his watch. Carnevali came over from Sassuolo, where he built a reputation for smart, patient squad building. Landing a young Italian striker with international experience for under €20 million fits that profile. The question now is whether Ekhator can take the next step at a club that expects to win every weekend.
He turns 20 in November. Plenty of time to figure it out.
