Jordyn Woods’ ‘Lucky’ Orange Bag Headed to the Guggenheim After Knicks’ Championship Run

Jordyn Woods’ orange clutch did more than just hold her phone and lip gloss during the NBA Finals. It apparently helped the New York Knicks win their first championship in 53 years. And now it’s getting a museum spot.

The Tux Clutch mini, which Woods wore courtside throughout the Finals in support of her fiancé Karl-Anthony Towns, will go on display at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City starting Wednesday, June 23. The museum posted a video on Instagram showing Woods handing the bag over to a curator who carefully placed it on a shelf. “A courtside icon is coming our way,” the caption read.

The bag became a thing after the Knicks kept winning every time Woods had it with her. Towns was all in on the superstition. In the video, he’s heard saying, “The bag did its thing tonight, I ain’t gonna lie to you. We gotta put this in like the Whitney or the Guggenheim.” And here we are.

How a Sample Bag Turned Into a Good Luck Charm

Woods designed the bag herself through her brand Woods by Jordyn. She matched it to the Knicks’ orange and blue colors. “I made this sample for the playoffs,” she explained on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle earlier this month. “I started wearing it, we won the game and it became a superstition.”

Her bag lore got a serious boost during Game 3 of the Finals. Madison Square Garden enforced a strict no-bag policy because President Donald Trump was in attendance. Woods couldn’t bring the clutch in. That was the only game the Knicks lost to the Spurs all postseason. Coincidence? Not according to Knicks fans online, who went wild about it. Woods told Today, “It really went viral when I couldn’t bring it and it was the first game we lost, I think, in 50 days or something.”

Towns popped up on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon alongside Knicks head coach Mike Brown and Jalen Brunson. When Fallon asked about the bag, Towns said, “What do you want me to say? We were undefeated in the playoffs with it. Obviously, she made some magic when she made that Woods by Jordyn bag, for sure.”

The Bag Sold Out. Then It Went Made-to-Order.

After the Knicks clinched the title in Game 5, Woods announced the bag was sold out. But her brand quickly pivoted to made-to-order so people could still get one. On June 16, the brand posted on Instagram: “The response to the lucky bag (Tux Clutch Mini) has been truly incredible, and we are so grateful for the overwhelming love and support.” They said they were “honestly shocked” by the demand.

Woods has hinted the bag might need some time off. “After the parade, I’m going to hang it in the rafters. I think she needs a rest,” she said.

For now, the bag gets a glass case instead. Whether you believe in its powers or not, it’s hard to argue with a 16-1 playoff run and a championship to show for it. The Guggenheim exhibit opens Wednesday. No word yet on whether fans are allowed to touch it for good luck.
