Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith got caught in the crosshairs of a satire account on X Tuesday. And his response was pretty much what you’d expect from a guy who’s reportedly worth millions in NIL money.
The account, run by Shane Tuttle, openly calls itself a parody page. But that didn’t stop Tuttle from posting a fake report claiming Smith was making zero dollars in NIL this season. The post even included a made-up quote from Smith saying he’d rather donate all his earnings back to the program to help bring in more talent through recruiting and the transfer portal.
“Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith reveals he is making $0 in NIL this season,” Tuttle wrote. Then the fake quote: “I want to win another National Championship. I figured that money could be used to make our team stronger in other areas.”
Smith apparently saw it. He didn’t write a long takedown. He didn’t get angry. He just replied with a bunch of question marks and a crying laughing emoji.
“Huh????” he posted.
That about sums it up.
How Much Is Smith Actually Making?
Estimates put Smith’s NIL valuation somewhere around $4.2 million. That makes him one of the highest-paid players in college football. And he’s reportedly turned down offers worth up to $10 million to stay at Ohio State rather than transfer somewhere else.
So yeah. He’s not making zero.
Smith has been a monster since he stepped on campus in 2024. He led the Big Ten in receiving both years. As a freshman he put up 1,315 yards. As a sophomore he added 1,243 more. Through 29 career games he’s caught 163 passes for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns.
He’s also considered a top NFL prospect whenever he decides to leave Columbus.
The satire post was obviously a joke. But it’s a reminder of how wild the NIL landscape has gotten. A fake story about a star player donating millions back to the program actually sounds almost believable in 2026. Almost.
Smith’s reaction was quick and clean. No drama. Just confusion and a laugh. That’s probably the smartest play he’s made all offseason.
