Jaylen Brown is not exactly keeping his feelings to himself these days. And on Saturday, he took it to another level.
The Celtics wing posted a lengthy video to his Instagram story in which a fan flatly calls him the best player on Boston’s 2024 championship team. Not Jayson Tatum. Brown. The video also claims he got blackballed by the Olympic team and that the Celtics have tried to trade him multiple times.
Brown didn’t just let it sit there. He shared it. Co-signed it. Made it his own.
This comes during a stretch where trade rumors have been circling Brown like vultures. Boston reportedly tried to get involved in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes before he landed in Miami, and there’s been persistent chatter that the relationship between Brown and the front office is frayed. Maybe beyond repair.
Finals MVP or not, the pecking order still feels clear
Look, Brown won Finals MVP last June. That’s real. He was the best player in that series against Dallas, no question. But ask any NBA scout, any GM, any fan who watches more than just the playoffs, and they’ll tell you Tatum is still the guy. The more complete player. The one who draws the double team. The one the offense runs through when things get tight.
Brown knows that. And it clearly bothers him.
He also went on a run of posts on X (still weird to call it that) listing his accomplishments. It had the energy of a guy who feels underappreciated. Which, honestly, he kind of is. He’s a legit two-way star who’s been mentioned in trade rumors for years while Tatum’s name never comes up. That stings, even if you’re making $300 million.
The Celtics have a problem they can’t ignore much longer
So far, Boston hasn’t gotten an offer for Brown that makes sense. But the pressure is building. If Brown keeps doing stuff like this it’s going to force the Celtics’ hand one way or another. Either they find a way to smooth things over internally or they trade him before the noise becomes a distraction that actually hurts the team.
What’s wild is that this is a guy who just helped win a championship. And instead of a victory lap, we’re here. That says something about how the last few months have gone behind the scenes.
Brown isn’t backing down either. He’s making his case publicly, loudly, and repeatedly. Whether that helps him get what he wants or just makes an exit more likely is the real question now.
