Jalen Brunson’s Daughter Owns the Knicks Parade With One Perfect Shirt

The New York Knicks held their NBA Championship parade on Thursday afternoon, rolling through the city from Battery Park to City Hall on buses loaded with players, families, and a whole lot of confetti. Karl-Anthony Towns was there. Josh Hart was there. The city showed up.

But the moment that’s going to live longer than any speech or trophy raise came from a six-year-old.

Jalen Brunson’s daughter showed up wearing a white shirt that read, in bold black letters: “New York, My Dad’s the MVP, Halelujah.” It’s hard to tell if the typo was intentional or just a kid’s shirt made in a hurry, but honestly it made it better. The internet lost it. Page Six posted the photo. Fans were in their feelings all afternoon.

Brunson, who just won Finals MVP after leading the Knicks through a brutal playoff run, took the stage at City Hall with that same daughter on his hip at one point. He thanked the front office, his teammates, the coaching staff, and the medical team. He thanked the fans too, though he did acknowledge they’re not exactly easy to please.

“Y’all are some pretty hard critics, but we appreciate it,” Brunson said. “At least I do.”

He got emotional talking about his family. “Truly without them, their sacrifice and everything will be possible,” he said. “My inner circle, I mean, they keep me humble every single day. They don’t let me get off track for nothing.”

The parade itself was a long time coming. It’s the Knicks’ first title since 1973, which means two generations of fans have never seen anything like this. The streets were packed. People climbed trees. Someone was definitely crying on live TV.

Brunson’s teammates had his back all season, and the whole roster showed up on the buses with their own families. But it was that kid in the handmade shirt who stole the whole day. She wasn’t trying to make a statement. She just wanted everyone to know her dad is the man.

The celebrations are expected to continue through the summer. Every player will get a chance to bring the trophy back to their hometown at some point. But for now, the lasting image is a little girl in a white shirt, standing on a float in Lower Manhattan, reminding everyone who the real MVP is.
