Inter Puts Trevoh Chalobah on the Back Burner. Chelsea Goes Back to Como.

Chelsea is circling back to Como for Trevoh Chalobah, but the Serie A side isn’t exactly rushing to answer the phone. Inter Milan had been the club most closely linked with the defender all summer, but that pursuit has gone quiet.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Chelsea might be getting a little anxious to offload Chalobah. The problem? Inter is busy trying to fix their wing-back situation after missing out on Anan Khalaili, and that has pushed the Chalobah talks to the back of the line. For now, it’s a waiting game on the Inter front.

Como’s cooling interest

Como, led by Cesc Fabregas, had their own conversations with Inter about the Chelsea defender. Those talks were reportedly pretty cordial between the two Italian clubs. But here’s the thing — Como made it clear they weren’t going to start a bidding war. They quietly stepped back instead.

Now Chelsea has reached back out to Como to see if they still want to make a move. The answer so far seems to be “not really.” Como is reportedly preparing to go after Davinson Sanchez, the former Tottenham center-back, instead of Chalobah. That tells you where their priorities sit.

The Serie A discount dilemma

Anyone who follows Italian football knows the deal. Both Inter and Como are going to want a discount. Serie A clubs don’t typically pay top dollar for Premier League cast-offs, and Chalobah — while solid — isn’t the kind of name that breaks the bank. Chelsea might be better off looking for buyers back in England, especially since Chalobah has already had loan spells in the Premier League with Crystal Palace and others.

The financial reality is pretty simple. Italian clubs operate on tighter budgets. They’ll wait Chelsea out and see if the Blues get desperate enough to drop the asking price. Whether Chelsea bites or finds a domestic buyer is the real question here.

For now, Chalobah is in limbo. Inter is focused elsewhere. Como is looking at other options. And Chelsea is left making phone calls.
