Green Bay’s Safeties Just Casually Stole the ‘Biggest Strength’ Title From Jordan Love

You look at the Packers roster and your eyes go straight to the guy under center. That’s fair. Jordan Love looks like the real deal, a franchise quarterback running an offense that keeps getting better. But if you’re looking for Green Bay’s most dangerous unit right now, you might be staring at the wrong side of the ball.

ESPN’s Mike Clay ranked every NFL roster for 2026 and gave the Packers’ safety room the nod as the team’s biggest strength. Not the QB room. The safeties. And honestly, it’s hard to argue.

Xavier McKinney is the headliner

The guy came to Green Bay and flipped everything. McKinney picked off eight passes in 2024, second most in the league. Then he followed that up with a 2025 season where he finished top 12 among all safeties in tackles and pass deflections. He’s not just a ballhawk either. The dude can play deep coverage and also come down and hit you. That kind of versatility is rare.

But it’s not just him

Evan Williams stepped in and locked down the other safety spot. He’s a high-end starter who fits perfectly next to McKinney’s style. Then there’s Javon Bullard, who’s expected to handle slot corner duties in 2026 but brings serious safety pedigree. That gives the Packers flexibility most teams don’t have. Bullard can slide back if needed, and the secondary doesn’t lose anything.

This isn’t a one-man show. It’s three guys who can all play, and they make each other better.

Having a quarterback like Love is obviously the dream scenario in today’s NFL. But the Packers have built something special in the back end. McKinney is a superstar. Williams and Bullard are high-floor guys who don’t make mistakes. Together, they might be the best safety group in the entire league.

Green Bay wants to make a deep playoff run. Their secondary isn’t just their biggest strength. It might be the reason they get there.
