Fulham Just Made Man United’s Summerville Pursuit a Lot More Complicated

Manchester United has been quietly working on a summer move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville. But they aren’t alone in that hunt anymore, and the competition just got real.

Fulham has entered the picture. According to The Guardian, the Cottagers are now in the mix for the 24-year-old Dutch international, joining Chelsea and United as potential suitors. West Ham’s relegation has made Summerville one of the more attractive bargain options on the market, and plenty of Premier League clubs are paying attention.

What Summerville brings to the table

Summerville is the kind of direct, one-on-one attacker that United’s front line has been missing. He has pace, he takes defenders on, and he doesn’t overthink it. That’s valuable for a team that often looks static in possession. He showed it at Leeds, then proved he could do it at West Ham, and he boosted his stock further with the Netherlands during the 2026 World Cup.

Sky Sports has reported that Summerville is one of United’s preferred options for the left-wing spot. But midfield remains the club’s priority this summer, so spending big on a winger might not happen unless something changes.

Rashford’s situation is the key

The Sun has reported that United has held talks with West Ham, but a lot depends on Marcus Rashford. If Rashford stays and finds his way back into Michael Carrick’s plans, the need for another left-sided attacker drops off. But if he leaves, Summerville becomes a much more serious target.

That’s where Fulham’s interest makes things tricky. Fulham can’t offer the same global stage as United, but they can offer something simpler: regular minutes and a clearly defined role. That might matter to a player who doesn’t want to sit behind Rashford or spend a season competing for scraps.

Summerville is Premier League proven, still young enough to grow, and plays a style that fans tend to enjoy. He’d be a sensible signing at a reasonable price. But United can’t afford to let a winger chase distract them from fixing the midfield. That’s still the bigger problem.

If West Ham is open to selling and Rashford’s future stays uncertain, United should keep pushing. But with Fulham and Chelsea also circling, this thing could move fast.
