Dortmund Slaps $104 Million Price Tag on Felix Nmecha as Man United Scouts Watch Closely

Manchester United’s midfield shopping list just got a lot more expensive. Borussia Dortmund has set a massive €120 million ($104 million) asking price for Felix Nmecha, according to reports, and that’s before you even factor in the release clause that kicks in next year.

The Germany international put on a show in the World Cup opener, scoring a beautiful goal in a 7-1 demolition of Curacao. And he easily could’ve had a hat trick before halftime. Curacao’s defenders just couldn’t track his late runs into the box, leaving him with clean looks he doesn’t usually miss.

United scouts were in the stands for that one. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke confirmed they’ve been “keeping a close eye” on Nmecha, and the performance reportedly impressed the folks in the room.

“The United scouting team have been keeping tabs on him and he started the World Cup with a strong performance for Germany which will have impressed his suitors,” O’Rourke said.

Here’s the thing though. Dortmund doesn’t want to sell. They just extended Nmecha’s contract through 2030, and there’s a release clause set at €80 million for 2027. But if you want him now, before that clause becomes active, the German club is asking for the full €120 million. And that’s not a negotiation starting point. That’s the number.

The Premier League competition is real

United isn’t the only one circling. City and Chelsea have also been told the same price tag, per BILD. So you’ve got three deep-pocketed Premier League clubs potentially bidding against each other for a 25-year-old midfielder who’s quickly become a centerpiece for both club and country.

Nmecha came through City’s academy before moving to Wolfsburg and then Dortmund. He’s 6’3″, physical, got close control in traffic, and runs all day without the ball. Julian Nagelsmann has made him a key part of the Germany setup for a reason.

United initially had Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes as their top targets, partly because they wanted guys with Premier League experience. But they’ve already backed off Anderson. And now Nmecha is squarely on the radar.

Whether United actually pays that kind of money for him is a different question. €120 million is huge money for any club. But if Nmecha keeps playing like he did against Curacao, that number might not come down anytime soon.
