At 22 years old, he’s not a kid anymore in development terms, and Chelsea’s ownership has shown a clear pattern: buy young, develop or don’t, then sell for a profit. Santos fits that mold.
Santos cost Chelsea a modest fee when they brought him in, and his value has likely risen. He’s shown flashes but hasn’t locked down a starting role under Xabi Alonso. It’s hard to see that changing suddenly, so selling now makes business sense for the club.
