Chelsea is not messing around this summer. The Blues have agreed to a £52 million deal for Crystal Palace center-back Maxence Lacroix, and the French international is already undergoing a medical in London. Standard Sport reports the transfer should be finalized by Friday.
Lacroix, 26, just wrapped up a World Cup run with France. That tournament ended last weekend, and negotiations with Chelsea accelerated almost immediately after the final whistle. The guy has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while now, but the timing worked out perfectly with the club planning a major overhaul of its center-back options.
Since joining Palace from Wolfsburg in 2024, Lacroix has been a rock. He helped the Eagles lift the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and even a Conference League trophy. That’s a serious haul for a club that wasn’t expected to compete for silverware that fast. Palace obviously wanted to keep him, but sources say they understood he wanted to explore new opportunities.
