ChatGPT Thinks Leeds United Survives Again But Someone Big is Going Down

ChatGPT took a swing at predicting the 2026-27 Premier League table, and the AI has some interesting news for Leeds United fans. The model sees Leeds staying up for a second straight season, but someone in the top half of the table last year might not be so lucky.

According to the projection, which was first reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds finishes 15th or so — comfortably above the drop zone. That would be a solid outcome for a club that just survived its first year back in the top flight. Chairman Paraag Marathe has been pretty open about how hard the second season can be for promoted teams, so even a mid-table finish would count as a win.

How Leeds and Sunderland beat the odds

Last season, Leeds and Sunderland both did something rare. They came up from the Championship and stayed up without much drama. Leeds finished 14th, eight points clear of 18th place. Sunderland actually made a run at Europe, finishing seventh and grabbing a Europa League spot. That’s almost unheard of for a newly promoted side.

Burnley wasn’t so lucky. They went straight back down alongside Wolves and West Ham, who got relegated on the final day. Tottenham survived in 17th, which probably made for some nervous afternoons in north London.

This time around, Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City are the new arrivals. All three have some history in the top tier, but history doesn’t keep you up.

What ChatGPT sees at the top

The AI has Arsenal winning the title with 88 points, edging out Manchester City at 85. Manchester United takes third with 80, and Chelsea rounds out the top four at 76. Liverpool and Newcastle sit fifth and sixth, and ChatGPT thinks City, United and Liverpool all have a real shot at the trophy.

But the real shock in the projection? It didn’t say. The original report hinted at a “relegation shock” but didn’t name names. That’s either because the AI kept it vague or the reporter wanted to tease the full breakdown. Either way, the idea that a club like Everton or Nottingham Forest could drop — teams Leeds finished right behind — makes the upcoming season feel unpredictable.

Leeds ended last year just two points behind Everton and Newcastle, and ahead of Crystal Palace and Forest. If someone in that group falls apart, Leeds could slide into a higher gear. Or they could be the ones looking over their shoulder.

Either way, ChatGPT is betting on the Peacocks to survive. That’s more than Burnley got last year.
