Casemiro is officially leaving Manchester United behind. The Brazilian midfielder has agreed to terms with Inter Miami, according to multiple reports, and will join Lionel Messi in South Florida as early as this week.

This isn’t a rumor that’s been floating around for a couple of days. People close to the situation have been talking about this move for months. Casemiro’s contract at Old Trafford expired at the end of last season, making him a free agent. And when a five-time Champions League winner becomes available for nothing, teams tend to pay attention.

Inter Miami certainly did.

The Deal Is Done

Fabrizio Romano, the transfer reporter who rarely misses on these things, posted the standard “here we go” confirmation over the weekend. According to Romano, a verbal agreement is in place. All the paperwork is sorted out. Now it’s just a matter of the official signing and the announcement.

Casemiro is 34. He’s played at the absolute top level for years — first at Real Madrid, then at Manchester United. His legs aren’t what they used to be, but his brain for the game is still sharp. In MLS, especially on a team that already has Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, he won’t need to cover as much ground. He can sit in the middle of the park, break up plays, and let the creative guys do their thing.

That’s basically the same role he played at Madrid during those Champions League runs. Just with more humidity and fewer European nights.

Why This Matters for Miami

Inter Miami already has a roster that looks like a FIFA Ultimate Team from about six years ago. Messi, Busquets, Alba, Luis Suárez. Now add Casemiro to that mix. The team is clearly trying to win now, not build for the future. And honestly, why wouldn’t they? Messi isn’t getting younger. Neither is anyone else on that list.

Casemiro also reunites with a few familiar faces from his La Liga days. He played against Messi and Suárez for years. He lined up alongside them in international games. There’s a comfort level there that should help him settle in quickly.

The move also makes sense for Casemiro personally. He’s winding down a legendary career. He won everything there is to win in Europe. Now he gets to play in a growing league, live in Miami, and be a central figure on a team that draws global attention every time it steps on the field.

Not a bad way to spend your mid-30s.

Inter Miami hasn’t made an official statement yet, but that’s expected within the next few days. The team is preparing for a busy summer, and adding a player of Casemiro’s pedigree only raises the expectations. MLS fans should be ready for a lot more of those grainy cell phone videos of superstars hanging out at South Beach restaurants.
