Bruno Guimaraes Agent Spotted With Super-Agent at World Cup and Newcastle Is Worried

Newcastle has a real problem on its hands. And it’s not just that the team finished 12th in the Premier League last season. It’s that the vultures are circling their best players, and the guy who might be the hardest to keep is Bruno Guimaraes.

Reports out of England now say the 28-year-old midfielder’s agent was photographed in Houston at the World Cup with a super-agent known for moving players to Arsenal. That has Newcastle’s front office sweating harder than a goalie in a penalty shootout.

According to Chronicle Live, Guimaraes’s representative Alexis Malavolta was seen with Giuliano Bertolucci, the same guy who brokered deals for Gabriel Magalhaes and David Luiz with the Gunners. Malavolta also reportedly spent time with Kia Joorabchian, another heavyweight agent with ties to big-money Premier League transfers.

Now, does a photograph at a World Cup match mean a deal is done? No. But for a club already bracing for an exodus, it’s not a great sign.

Arsenal already made an initial inquiry, offering around £55 million, according to earlier reports. Newcastle said no. But sources indicate the Gunners believe a bid closer to £65 million would get it done. The real wildcard here is Manchester United.

United whiffed on Elliot Anderson, who’s headed to Manchester City for a guaranteed £116 million fee. And they lost out on Mateus Fernandes, who’s joining Tottenham for £85 million. In both cases, United decided the price tags were too rich. That makes Guimaraes a logical backup target. But whether United is willing to match or exceed Arsenal’s valuation remains unclear.

What is clear is that Newcastle is vulnerable. Missing Champions League football after a 12th-place finish makes it hard to hold onto stars. Anthony Gordon already moved to Barcelona. Sandro Tonali’s looking for the exit. And now there’s smoke around Guimaraes, a player who has quietly become one of the league’s most complete midfielders since arriving from Lyon in 2022.

He can play as a six or an eight. He breaks up play, starts transitions, and has the kind of passing range that makes coaches drool. At 28, he’s in his prime. For a team like Arsenal or United, he’d be an immediate starter.

Newcastle insists it doesn’t want to sell. But the club’s actions — or lack thereof — suggest they’re preparing for the worst. When your star player’s agent is globe-trotting with super-agents during the World Cup, the writing tends to be on the wall.

For now, it’s a waiting game. The transfer window is long. And the next time Malavolta’s photo pops up, it might be at a medical facility.
