Brandon Aiyuk really wants to be a Commander. Like, really wants it. And he’s making sure everyone knows it—especially Jayden Daniels.
The 49ers wide receiver went back to his Instagram Story on Wednesday with another message for Washington’s quarterback. This time, there was a little edge in his voice.
“He said, ‘I don’t do that internet s***, bro. Hit my phone if you got to talk to me, bro. You have my number.’ Then I call him, and he doesn’t answer,” Aiyuk said on camera, wearing a burgundy shirt. “Hit my phone, bruh. It’s important. There’s some money on the line.”
One-sided recruitment
Aiyuk has been relentless. Last month he posted a video of himself holding a football with the Commanders logo on it. A few days ago, it was a photo dump of him in a Washington hat. The caption read: “The best sport in the world. The best league in the world. The best team in the world.”
The problem? San Francisco hasn’t budged. The 49ers want a trade return, not a release. And no team has met their price yet. So Aiyuk is stuck in that weird middle ground where he’s technically under contract but clearly checked out.
A complicated history in San Francisco
This isn’t new for Aiyuk and the 49ers. Back in 2024, the two sides went through a long, public standoff over a contract extension. They eventually settled on a four-year, $120 million deal, but Aiyuk only played seven games that season before tearing his ACL and MCL. The injuries cost him the entire 2025 season.
Now he’s healthy and wants out. But his social media antics might be backfiring. The Commanders have shown interest in the past, but multiple reports suggest the front office is wary of his erratic public behavior. It’s one thing to want to play for a team. It’s another to run a full PR campaign that feels more like a demand than a request.
Aiyuk is a legit talent when he’s on the field. But right now, he’s making more noise on Instagram than in any front office. And until the 49ers find a trade partner or change their stance, this saga is going to keep playing out in the weirdest way possible—one Story post at a time.
