Bayern Munich Called About Marcus Rashford — But They’re Not Making Him a Priority

Marcus Rashford’s future is back in the rumor mill, but the buzz out of Germany comes with a major asterisk. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich have indeed made inquiries about the Manchester United winger — yet the Bundesliga champions are far from ready to pull the trigger on a deal.

Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona after spending the 2025/26 season with the Catalan club, helping them claim the LaLiga title. Barcelona had a £26 million buy option on the England international, but they’ve already passed on that, per reports, after signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle to fill that left-wing spot.

The twist? Barcelona have floated the idea of another loan for Rashford. Man United — now back in the Champions League under manager Michael Carrick — want a clean break, pushing for a permanent sale rather than another temporary arrangement.

Bayern’s Interest Is Real, But Measured

Romano clarified on his YouTube channel that Bayern reached out to gauge Rashford’s situation two to three weeks ago. But the club’s focus has shifted elsewhere. “There is some people at Bayern appreciating Rashford, but at the moment, no negotiation, no bid,” Romano said. “The focus at Bayern is on different players.”

He specifically pointed to PSV Eindhoven’s Ismael Saibari as a more realistic target — a player who fits the club’s preferred profile in terms of both transfer fee and salary demands. Rashford’s hefty wages are reportedly a sticking point for Bayern, who don’t want to pay star money for a backup option.

Salary and Competition Create Hurdles

Earlier this month, Bild journalist Christian Falk hinted at the same obstacle. On his website CFBayernInsider, Falk wrote that Bayern would have no problem covering the reported £34.5 million price tag — but the wage issue looms large. “FC Bayern doesn’t want to be forking out a big wage for a backup signing,” he noted.

Falk also drew a comparison to Luis Diaz, who wasn’t the club’s first-choice target last summer but still ended up in Munich. “I personally don’t think he’s an option for Bayern right now,” Falk said, “but it’s worth remembering… So I won’t say no for sure, but it’s not hot at the minute.”

That cautious tone matches Romano’s update. The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that Bayern were “seriously considering” a move for Rashford, but the current picture suggests they’re keeping tabs rather than going all in.

For now, Rashford remains in a holding pattern. He’s not the primary target at Bayern, Barcelona already passed on a permanent deal, and United are eager to move on. The next few weeks will determine whether a club steps forward with an offer that fits both the transfer fee and the wage demands — or if English football’s summer window leaves him waiting longer than expected.
