Barcelona Ready to Push Past $100M for Julián Alvarez After His Public Exit Demand

Julián Alvarez wants out of Atlético Madrid, and he said it himself. That changes things.

The Argentine striker made headlines earlier this week while on international duty, dropping the kind of honest, direct statement that usually forces a club’s hand. “I don’t want to hide or act like I don’t want to be clear. I try to be honest. I spoke to Atlético people and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave. I want to fulfil my dream,” he told reporters.

For Barcelona, that quote might as well have been a gift. The Blaugrana have been circling Alvarez all summer, and now they know he’s open to the move. According to journalist Alex Pintanel of RAC1, Barcelona is planning a new offer worth around €120 million — roughly $130 million — up from the €100 million bid they reportedly tested earlier.

The club has made it clear, though, that they won’t chase him all the way to €150 million. That number seems to be their hard ceiling. Whether Atlético will bite at €120 million is a different question. The Rojiblancos paid big to bring Alvarez in from Manchester City, and they tend to negotiate hard when rivals come calling.

Alvarez’s camp has been pushing for clarity

This isn’t a rumor pulled from thin air. The guy literally said he wants to leave. That’s rare for a player of his caliber still under contract, especially one who hasn’t made a habit of airing grievances in public. His comments came as a direct answer to questions about his future, and he didn’t hedge. That gives Barcelona a real opening.

From a squad perspective, it makes sense. Barcelona needs a forward who can play across the front line, and Alvarez fits that profile. He’s not a pure No. 9 in the Robert Lewandowski mold, but he’s smart with his movement, works hard defensively, and has a knack for showing up in big moments. At 26, he’s also young enough to anchor the attack for years.

Atlético, for their part, haven’t responded publicly. But internally, they have to be weighing whether keeping an unhappy star is worth risking the locker room or his market value dropping. If they wait too long, the leverage shifts. Barcelona knows that.

Deco and the front office are expected to formalize the new bid in the coming days. If it lands at €120 million with some add-ons, it might be enough to get a conversation started. If not, Alvarez’s dream of playing at Camp Nou might have to wait another window.
