Bam Adebayo Says He and Giannis Are Aligned on One Thing and It’s Bad News for the East

Bam Adebayo didn’t mince words when asked about pairing up with Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Miami Heat big man made it clear what matters most to the two of them, and it’s not getting individual stats or making highlight reels.

At the ESPYs in New York City, Adebayo talked about what he’s expecting from this partnership. The Heat landed Antetokounmpo in a massive offseason trade that sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and draft picks to Milwaukee. Bobby Portis also came over to Miami in the deal.

“Biggest thing is we want to win. You can always be aligned with somebody who is about the right stuff and wanting to win,” Adebayo said.

That’s probably not what the rest of the Eastern Conference wanted to hear. Miami missed the playoffs entirely in the 2025-26 season, which felt like a wasted year for a franchise that prides itself on culture and competing. But now? The Heat look like legit contenders overnight. And not just for the East. For the whole thing.

Antetokounmpo gives them something they’ve lacked since LeBron James left — a truly dominant, game-wrecking force who can carry a team through a playoff series. Adebayo already does the dirty work on defense and can hold his own offensively. Together, they form a frontcourt that can match up with anybody. Both can guard multiple positions. Both can push in transition. Both can punish you in the paint.

And here’s where it gets interesting. There’s chatter — and it’s just chatter for now — that LeBron James could be looking at Miami as a landing spot in free agency. The Heat haven’t confirmed anything, and LeBron hasn’t said a word publicly. But the rumor mill is alive. If that happens, you’re looking at three of the best players of this generation on one roster. And that’s a conversation about dynasties, not just championships.

The Heat last won a title in 2013. They haven’t had a parade since. That drought feels like it could end sooner than later. Especially with two guys who apparently share the same priority list.

Win first. Everything else later.
