Atlanta Hawks Shopping No. 8 Pick Hours Before NBA Draft and Milwaukee Could Be the Partner

The Atlanta Hawks are making calls. A lot of them. With the NBA Draft just hours away, multiple league sources indicate the Hawks are actively trying to move the No. 8 overall pick. This isn’t just rumor mill noise — some of the most plugged-in reporters in the game are hearing the same thing.

Jonathan Wasserman posted on X that Atlanta “sounds pretty active in trade talks at No. 8, per multiple sources.” That tracks with what ClutchPoints senior NBA reporter Brett Siegel has been hearing. Siegel says the Hawks have been discussing deals involving both picks No. 8 and No. 23, and they might be the most aggressive team in the top 10 right now.

Who are the Hawks targeting?

Siegel pointed to Brayden Burries as a dark-horse candidate for Atlanta. If the Hawks grab him, it might not be at No. 8. There’s talk they could trade down, and that’s where the Milwaukee Bucks come in.

The Bucks hold pick No. 10. Siegel reports Milwaukee has been looking to land one of the top guards in this class — specifically Flemings — and a deal with Atlanta could make sense for both sides. The Dallas Mavericks at No. 9 add a wrinkle, since they’re also reportedly interested in Burries.

This is all happening against a wild backdrop. Milwaukee just shipped Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami in a blockbuster trade, so the Bucks are clearly in retool mode. Jake Fischer reported that Milwaukee tried to package picks No. 10 and 13 to move up in the first round, though he doesn’t expect any trades inside the top 10 to actually happen.

Whether the Hawks actually pull the trigger remains to be seen. But they’re definitely the team to watch tonight. Atlanta hasn’t confirmed anything, and the whole thing could fall apart if the right offer doesn’t materialize. But the buzz is real, and it’s getting louder by the hour.
