Aston Villa Told Interested Clubs to Back Off Morgan Rogers. They Meant It.

Aston Villa have made their stance on Morgan Rogers about as clear as it gets. They don’t want to sell him. And they don’t want to hear a number.

According to Sky Sports, Villa have informed any club sniffing around the 23-year-old that bids will not be welcome this summer. That includes Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain — all teams that have been linked with the attacking midfielder.

Rogers is currently in the United States with the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, which adds another layer of complication for any potential suitor. He’s not even in the building to entertain a move right now.

Villa bought him from Middlesbrough for just £8 million in 2024. A year and a half later, he won the PFA young player of the year award and signed a new six-year deal in November. Last season he put up 14 goals and 11 assists across 55 appearances, with 10 of those goals coming in the Premier League. He also helped Villa win the Europa League — their first major trophy since 1996 — and was named player of the tournament.

So yeah. They’re not shopping him.

The United connection that won’t go away

Manchester United’s interest has some extra juice because of Michael Carrick. Carrick coached Rogers at Middlesbrough and the two have a real relationship. That kind of personal tie usually means something in these situations, especially when a player is considering a move.

But Villa’s message has reportedly been firm: do not test us. They’ve reportedly refused to even set a price tag, which is unusual for a club in their position. Most teams will quietly say something like “it’ll take £80 million” and let the market work. Villa is skipping that part entirely.

Arsenal have also been strongly linked, and a recent report suggested the Emirates would be Rogers’ preferred destination if he did leave. But that feels like a hypothetical when Villa won’t even pick up the phone.

Why Villa can afford to say no

Rogers signed a six-year contract in November. He’s not just under contract — he’s under contract for the long haul. Villa has no pressure to sell, no need to balance books this summer, and no reason to let go of a player who is arguably their most valuable asset under 25.

Unai Emery’s side is building something. They won a trophy. They’re in the Champions League conversation. Keeping Rogers is part of that plan, not a nice-to-have.

That said, this saga is probably not over. It never is with a player of this caliber at a club that isn’t one of the European superpowers. Another club could come back with an offer so absurd that Villa has to listen. Or Rogers could agitate for a move after the World Cup. Those things happen.

But right now? Villa’s message is simple: don’t call us.
