Arsenal is closing in on a deal that reshuffles their attacking depth. The club has agreed to pay Club Brugge around €40 million for Greek winger Christos Tzolis, according to The Athletic. The 24-year-old is expected to fill the gap left by Leandro Trossard, who recently completed a move to Turkish side Besiktas.
Tzolis isn’t a household name for most Premier League fans, but those who remember his time at Norwich City will recall a raw, fast forward who never quite clicked in England. Three goals in 30 appearances for the Canaries didn’t exactly set Carrow Road on fire. But since joining Brugge in 2024, the Greece international has turned into a different player entirely.
His numbers are borderline absurd. In 108 games for the Belgian club, Tzolis has 43 goals and 45 assists. Last season alone, he racked up 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 matches while helping Brugge win the league title. That kind of production for a winger in his early 20s is hard to ignore, and Arsenal’s scouting staff has been tracking him closely.
What Tzolis brings that Trossard didn’t
The obvious comparison is age and upside. Trossard was 28 when he joined Arsenal and 30 when he left. Tzolis is 24 with a much higher ceiling. He’s quicker than Trossard, works harder off the ball, and can play anywhere across the front three. That versatility is exactly what Mikel Arteta likes in his attacking options.
But there’s also a risk here. The Premier League is a brutal adjustment for players who thrive in smaller leagues. Tzolis already flopped once in England, and that was at a Norwich team that got relegated. The counterargument is that he was a kid then, 20 years old, thrown into a struggling side. Now he’s a more polished, confident player with a trophy on his resume.
Arsenal still wants Morgan Rogers
This deal doesn’t kill Arsenal’s interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. The club has been linked with the young midfielder for weeks, and sources indicate talks are still ongoing. If anything, adding Tzolis gives Arsenal flexibility — they could use him as a wide option while Rogers plays more centrally.
Arsenal also looked into Juventus youngster Kenan Yildiz, but the Italian club made it clear he wasn’t for sale. That rejection pushed the Gunners to pivot hard toward Tzolis, and the deal came together quickly after that.
The big question now is playing time. If Arsenal lands Rogers too, that’s four or five guys competing for three spots in attack, depending on how Arteta sets up. Tzolis is good enough to start for most Premier League sides, but he might find himself rotating more than he’d like in north London.
Still, for €40 million, Arsenal is getting a player whose value has skyrocketed since his Norwich days. If he hits even close to his Brugge form, that price tag will look like a bargain in a year or two.
