Arsenal Joins the Fight for Summerville as Man United’s Plan Gets Complicated

Crysencio Summerville is having a World Cup to remember. Two goals. One assist. Two games. And he’s got half of Europe’s biggest clubs lining up for his signature this summer.

Manchester United thought they had a clear path. They’ve been tracking the West Ham winger for months, and with their attacking depth thinner than it’s been in years, Summerville looked like the kind of proven Premier League addition the club desperately needs. But now Arsenal has entered the picture. So has Tottenham. And Aston Villa. And PSG is still lurking.

According to Foot Mercato, the Gunners have officially joined the race for the Dutch international. That changes things. United already competes with Arsenal on the pitch. Now they might have to outbid them for a player who just lit up a World Cup group stage.

The Numbers Behind the Noise

Summerville isn’t some breakout flash in the pan. He put up seven goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions last season for a West Ham team that got relegated. That context matters. He was consistently dangerous on a bad team. The kind of winger who can create something from nothing, which is exactly what United and Arsenal both need right now.

He’s fast. He presses like his life depends on it. He cuts inside from the left and makes defenders look slow. At 24 years old, he fits the age profile INEOS has been chasing since they took over at Old Trafford. And his World Cup performances have only made him more expensive.

What West Ham Wants

Even before the World Cup started, West Ham was asking for €50 million. That number has gone up. Foot Mercato reports that Summerville’s sensational goal against Japan already bumped the asking price, and he’s not done playing yet.

Serie A clubs like AS Roma and AC Milan liked the idea of signing him. They liked it a lot less once they saw the price tag. Italian clubs have reportedly backed out. The deal is already too rich for them. PSG knows they’ll have to write a serious check if they want to compete with the Premier League heavyweights now circling.

United might pivot. There’s been talk about targeting Bazoumana Toure instead, a different type of winger who hugs the touchline more than Summerville does. But the Dutchman’s Premier League experience and his ability to produce in big moments make him hard to ignore.

For now, it’s a crowded race. And Summerville is the one holding all the leverage.
