The summer transfer window hasn’t even fully opened, but Arsenal and Manchester United are already lining up a potential tug-of-war over one of the Premier League’s rising midfield talents. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, just 22 years old, has become a name that keeps surfacing in scouting reports and boardroom conversations — and for good reason.
Scott was instrumental in Bournemouth’s stunning sixth-place finish this past season, a run that punched the club’s first-ever ticket to European competition. It’s the kind of overachievement that forces bigger clubs to take notice, and according to The Telegraph, both Arsenal and United are now considering a move for the England Under-21 international.
Tuchel’s Praise Adds Weight to the Hype
England manager Thomas Tuchel has already thrown his weight behind Scott, calling his performances “excellent” in comments published on Bournemouth’s official site. “He did an excellent job in midfield together with Elliot Anderson,” Tuchel said. “Then he took another step and became a very regular starter for AFC Bournemouth. They are in the top third of the league, over-performing constantly, and he is a starter for them. He puts the intensity in and he gets his minutes.”
That kind of endorsement from the national team boss doesn’t go unnoticed. Scott seems on the verge of breaking into the senior England setup, which only increases his market value and appeal to clubs chasing both domestic and European success.
Where Scott Fits Into Each Club’s Plans
For Manchester United, the midfield picture is shifting fast. Casemiro is out of contract, and Manuel Ugarte — never quite the difference-maker United hoped for — appears likely to be moved on. That leaves room for multiple additions in the middle of the pitch. The Telegraph notes United are also working on a deal for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, but Scott remains on their radar as a younger, Premier League-proven alternative.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to deepen Mikel Arteta’s midfield options after an underwhelming campaign from Christian Norgaard, who joined last summer but hasn’t fully settled. Scott’s ability to play with intensity and cover ground fits the Arsenal system nicely. The Gunners have also been linked with big names like Sandro Tonali and Ayyoub Bouaddi, per Sky’s Sacha Tavolieri, but Scott carries an edge over both: he’s already shown he can handle the Premier League grind. Bouaddi is unproven in England, and at 22, Scott may have more room to grow than the 24-year-old Tonali.
Neither Arsenal nor United have confirmed formal bids, but the groundwork is being laid. With midfield dominoes likely to fall across Europe this summer, Scott’s name could be one of the first to land on a completed deal sheet.
