Angel Reese Has One Demand for Marina Mabrey After 53-Point Night: ‘She Deserves a Ride’

Marina Mabrey just dropped 53 points on the Los Angeles Sparks, and Angel Reese already knows what she’s getting as a thank-you gift.

The Toronto Tempo guard went nuclear Thursday night, torching the Sparks with career-high numbers that put her name in the WNBA record book. She played 32 minutes, hit 17 of 28 shots from the floor, drilled nine threes on 18 attempts, and went 10-for-12 from the foul line. Add six rebounds and two assists, and you’ve got one of the best scoring performances the league has ever seen.

Reese was watching. And she had a message waiting for her former Chicago Sky teammate after the final buzzer.

“Yeah i guess Marina deserves a ride in the RR 😭🔥,” Reese wrote on social media, referencing her Rolls-Royce.

The two played together briefly during the 2024 WNBA season with the Sky before Chicago traded Mabrey to the Connecticut Sun. Now Mabrey is with the Tempo after the league’s expansion draft, and she’s clearly settled in. Reese’s reaction shows the bond hasn’t faded even with both players on different teams now.

Reese and the Dream are rolling

It’s not just Mabrey putting up numbers. Reese is having a strong third season with the Atlanta Dream, and the team is winning. She’s averaging 14.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals across 17 games this year.

The Dream sit at 12-5, which is good for first place in the Eastern Conference. That puts them ahead of the New York Liberty and the Indiana Fever, two teams that were supposed to be ahead of Atlanta in the pecking order. Reese is doing her part on both ends of the floor, and the chemistry she’s building with her new teammates is showing up in the win column.

Atlanta’s next test comes on the road. They head to face the Golden State Valkyries on June 26 at 10 p.m. ET. If Reese keeps playing like this, she might need to clear some space in the garage for a return ride from Mabrey someday.
