Manchester United have officially opened the door for Crysencio Summerville. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, the club has offered the West Ham winger a contract that runs through 2031 with an option to extend another year. That’s not a flier. That’s a bet on a guy they believe could anchor their attack for the better part of a decade.
Summerville is 24. He’s got pace, he loves going at defenders one-on-one, and he’s comfortable on either wing. Those are exactly the kinds of traits United’s attack has been missing. Too often last season, they looked slow in transition and predictable in possession. Summerville changes that math.
West Ham’s relegation made this kind of exit pretty much inevitable. Multiple clubs have circled the Dutch international this summer, but United appear to be making the first real move. TEAMtalk reports the deal could land around the £50 million mark, and there’s even chatter about a double dip that would also bring midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford.
The World Cup Bump
Summerville’s value got a nice lift during the World Cup. He scored in the Netherlands’ opening match and looked comfortable on the biggest stage. That kind of exposure tends to lock in a player’s price tag. West Ham’s negotiators are probably feeling pretty good about that right now.
But here’s where it gets interesting. The Sun has reported that a Summerville move might actually hinge on what happens with Marcus Rashford. Barcelona decided not to trigger their permanent option on Rashford, which leaves United with a decision. Do they keep him and build around depth, or clear the deck for a new primary option on the left?
Right now, United’s attack has Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko — all signed last summer — but they still need more versatility. Summerville gives them that. He can play left, right, and he’s got a nose for goal. That’s not easy to find in one player.
No word yet on whether Rashford’s situation will speed things up or slow them down. But the offers are on the table. The talks are real. And if you’re a United fan tired of watching your team struggle to create chances, Summerville is the kind of signing that makes you pay attention.
