Dallas might have stumbled through stretches of last season, but nobody is arguing about the talent in their receiver room. ESPN dropped its annual wide receiver rankings on Wednesday, and two Cowboys landed inside the top 10 — right next to each other.

CeeDee Lamb checked in at No. 6, George Pickens at No. 7. And the chatter around the league isn’t just about the rankings themselves. It’s about which guy is actually the better player right now.

Lamb’s Ankle Messed With His Whole Year

Lamb’s 2025 season was a letdown by his standards. He rolled his ankle early, and it never really felt right. He finished with 75 catches for 1,077 yards and three touchdowns — his lowest numbers since his rookie year.

But the people who watch film for a living aren’t panicking. One NFC scout told ESPN that Lamb’s ability to separate and force defensive attention is still elite. “He’s still on the short list of guys who give you problems consistently,” the scout said.

An NFL coordinator put it even more directly. “I expect him to have a bounce-back year. He was never quite the same off that ankle injury.”

That checks out. Lamb looked a step slower last fall. Now he’s healthy again, and the Cowboys are betting that turns their ceiling back into a real thing.

Pickens Is Making People Question Who the WR1 Is

Pickens had his breakout in Dallas last season, and the numbers backed up the eye test. But it wasn’t just the stats. It was the way he caught the ball. A veteran NFL offensive coach called him “one of the best I’ve ever seen at the contested catch.”

Same coach added a caveat though: “There’s such untapped ability there. It’s just a consistency issue and where his head’s at week to week.”

That’s the tricky part with Pickens. On talent alone, some around the league think he’s already Dallas’s No. 1. If he stays locked in, it’s not a debate. But there’s a reason Lamb still got the higher spot on the list despite being at 75 percent last year.

What This Means for Dallas

The Cowboys made real changes on defense this offseason. But the offense was never really the issue when both guys were healthy. Having two top-10 receivers changes how defenses play you. You don’t get double-covered both ways.

There’s a lot of football to play between now and a Super Bowl run. But for the first time in a while, the Cowboys have a receiver duo that can carry them through January if they stay on the field.
