Brian Schottenheimer Told a Podcast the Cowboys Plan to Be in the Super Bowl Next Year

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn’t hiding his ambitions. On a recent appearance on the “Twins Take Podcast,” he made a very direct prediction about where his team will be in February 2027.

“The Super Bowl next year is Feb. 14th, 2027. We plan on being there,” Schottenheimer said.

That’s not a coach hedging his bets with “we hope to compete” or “we’re taking it one game at a time.” That’s a coach putting a date on the calendar and claiming his spot.

Schottenheimer also tied the goal to his late father, Marty Schottenheimer, who passed away in February 2021. He said when the Cowboys get their rings, he’ll order an extra one for his dad.

It’s a high-stakes declaration for a team that went 7-9-1 last season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. The Cowboys haven’t been serious playoff contenders since 2022, and the NFC East is as competitive as it’s been in years.

What changed on the roster

The front office made defense the priority this offseason. That makes sense given how much the unit struggled in 2025. The new additions are significant.

Dallas signed OLB Rashan Gary, DE Otito Ogbonnia, ILB Dee Winters, SS Jalen Thompson, and cornerback Cobie Durant in free agency. Then they used their first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Ohio State defensive back Caleb Downs, considered one of the top prospects in the class.

That’s a lot of new bodies on that side of the ball. The thinking is clear: fix the defense, and the team jumps back into contention.

The offense is mostly running it back. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are the top wide receivers. Dak Prescott has weapons. The offensive line is intact. Javonte Williams is expected to handle the bulk of the carries again.

It’s not a rebuild. It’s a retool with a loud public promise attached.

Of course, saying you plan on being in the Super Bowl and actually getting there are two different things. The Cowboys have made the NFC Championship Game once since 1995. That’s a long time ago. Schottenheimer himself is a first-time head coach taking over a team with a lot of pressure and a lot of expectations.

But he made the statement. Now we get to see if his team can back it up.
