Jaylen Brown Wants Trey Murphy III to Stream With Him. Murphy Has a Good Reason to Say No.

Jaylen Brown is out here recruiting again. But not for the 76ers. Not for a playoff run. He’s trying to get Trey Murphy III to start streaming on Twitch.

Brown showed up in one of Murphy’s YouTube videos and straight-up asked him to join the streaming world. And honestly? It makes sense. Brown is probably the most famous NBA player who actually streams regularly. He’s gone viral multiple times for just talking on stream after big games. It’s become part of his brand.

But Murphy didn’t exactly jump at the chance.

“I say some outlandish things from time to time,” Murphy said in the video. “I be not thinking, and that would be what would get me in trouble.”

Fair enough. The guy knows himself. And honestly, with the way the internet works? That’s probably the smartest thing he’s said all offseason.

Meanwhile, the 76ers are sitting here with a roster that looks completely different than it did a few months ago. They grabbed Labaron Philon at pick 22 in the draft, which a lot of people are already calling a steal. They signed Dean Wade, who fits perfectly as a stretch four. And Anfernee Simons? They got him on what might be the best value deal in free agency.

Oh, and they traded for Jaylen Brown. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP. It only cost them Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. Which sounds like a lot until you remember Paul George is 36 and Brown just won Finals MVP. Philadelphia basically fleeced Boston.

Now the 76ers are the favorites to come out of the East. Some people are even saying LeBron James might end up there. That part is still just rumors, but the team has already been named on a list of teams LeBron is reportedly considering.

As for Murphy? He’s not heading to Philly. But he’s been a trade rumor fixture for a while now. The Pelicans have a lot of interesting pieces but haven’t been able to put it all together. They’ve supposedly told teams they’d need a massive overpay to move Murphy, and so far nobody’s offered it.

So for now, Murphy is still a Pelican. And apparently, still not a streamer.

Brown will have to keep looking for streaming buddies somewhere else.
