Carolina’s Stanley Cup Engraving Is Official. Here’s What It Looks Like.

The Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup back in June. Since then, they’ve been busy putting together a roster that can run it back in 2026-27. But one tradition takes time, and now it’s finally done.

The engraving is official. Hockey insider Frank Seravalli shared images Wednesday showing the Hurricanes’ name and season etched into the Cup’s latest band. It’s the franchise’s second championship in the modern era, the first since 2006.

If you’re not deep into hockey lore, here’s how it works. The Stanley Cup isn’t a new trophy every year. It’s the same one, over a century old, and the bands get rotated out as new winners get added. When space runs out on one ring, the oldest band gets removed and shipped to the Hockey Hall of Fame. A new, blank ring gets added. The Hurricanes now sit alongside every other champion on the current active barrel.

The actual engraving itself is clean. Standard font. No fancy extras. Just “CAROLINA HURRICANES” and the season designation. For a franchise that spent years knocking on the door this feels like permanence. The 2006 team is on a retired band somewhere. This one is fresh metal.

What’s next for the Hurricanes? The front office has been aggressive. They kept key pieces from the playoff run and made a few depth moves over the summer. Training camp starts in a few weeks. The lineup looks strong on paper, but paper doesn’t stop shots.

There’s also the question of the banner. The team will raise it opening night at PNC Arena. That ceremony is always emotional. For the players who were there in June, it’s the last real celebration before the grind starts over. For the fans, it’s proof that it actually happened.

The Cup itself will also make its rounds. Each player gets a day with it during the summer. By now most have had their turn. But seeing the engraving publicly is a different kind of milestone. It’s the hockey equivalent of seeing your name in the credits.

No word yet on when the banner raising date is officially set. But expect the league to schedule that game with TV in mind. The defending champs deserve a primetime slot.
