Will Compton had a lot of people fooled this week. The former Tennessee Titans linebacker posted online about not getting an invite to the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding, and apparently, more than a few folks thought he was serious.
Compton went on social media Thursday to clarify that he was just messing around. The whole bit started after Swift and Kelce reportedly tied the knot at Madison Square Garden over the Fourth of July weekend, with a guest list that included Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Compton’s name was notably absent. Or so he claimed.
“Flabbergasted at how many people took this seriously,” Compton wrote. “A couple media outlets reached out directly, asking if I’d go on record, if I’ve spoken [with] Travis, if there are others that are upset. Insanity!!! I was just busting balls. Of course Dean Blandino was invited to the wedding, he’s practically a teammate of Travis’s being a former NFL Referee.”
Compton, who once worked for Barstool Sports, has ties to Kelce through Tight End University, the Nashville-based training camp founded by George Kittle. Kelce has served as a counselor there before, so there’s a connection. But Compton never actually expected a seat at the wedding.
Dave Portnoy, the Barstool founder and a known Swiftie, called Compton out on Fox Sports 1’s Wake Up Barstool to discuss the snub. Portnoy posted a clip on X with the caption, “Had to call my friend @_willcompton to check in on him after he got absolutely snubbed from the Swift Kelce wedding.”
Compton is also a co-host of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast alongside Taylor Lewan. Neither of them made the cut for the actual guest list. But Dean Blandino, the former NFL referee who now works for Fox Sports, reportedly did get an invite. So did most of the NFL on Fox crew, which makes sense given Kelce’s day job.
The wedding itself was always going to be a massive pop culture moment. Between Swift’s global fame, Kelce’s star power, the venue at MSG, and the flood of social media posts from attendees, it dominated holiday weekend chatter. But Compton’s fake outrage just added a weird little subplot.
Don’t expect any wedding photos of Compton and Lewan anytime soon. They weren’t there. And now we know that’s exactly the point.
