Quinyon Mitchell might not be a household name outside of Philadelphia yet. But around the NFL, people are starting to talk about him like one of the best cornerbacks in the league. An ESPN insider recently predicted he’ll crack the top three of his position rankings soon. That’s a big statement for a guy who just finished his second season.

Mitchell placed second in AP Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2024 and earned first-team All-Pro honors. Not bad for a third-year player who didn’t even start that long ago. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mitchell’s trajectory is headed straight toward the elite tier.

“It’s only a matter of time before Mitchell cracks the top three,” Fowler wrote. “In just two seasons, Mitchell has worked his way into first-team All-Pro status with 29 pass deflections.”

An AFC executive told ESPN that Mitchell is a “rock-solid corner” with a well-rounded coverage game. The executive noted Mitchell’s competitiveness against the opposing team’s No. 1 receiver. The only knock? Turnover production. That’s what’s keeping him from the absolute top of the group, according to the exec. But still, an excellent player.

The numbers tell a similar story. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Mitchell allowed just 4.8 yards per target in coverage last season. That ranked third in the entire NFL. His minus-0.16 expected points added tied for fourth among cornerbacks with at least 75 targets faced. He gave up only 1.8 yards after the catch per reception, the fewest among all corners. And his 42% tight-window throw rate was the highest in the league.

ESPN currently has Mitchell at No. 6 in their cornerback rankings. The five guys ahead of him are Pat Surtain II, Derek Stingley Jr., Christian Gonzalez, Devon Witherspoon, and Trent McDuffie. That’s a loaded group. But Mitchell is right there in the conversation.

The Eagles defense as a whole looks formidable heading into 2026. If they play at an elite level, it’s not out of the question for Philadelphia to make another Super Bowl run. They won it all in 2024. Mitchell will need to be a central piece of that defensive attack. So far, he’s shown he can handle the pressure.

One thing is clear: Mitchell has arrived. And he’s not done climbing.
