Arsenal and Man United Headed for £80M Clash Over Alex Scott. Decision Coming Soon.

We might finally get some clarity on Alex Scott’s future in the next few days. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, both Arsenal and Manchester United are expected to test Bournemouth’s willingness to keep their 22-year-old midfielder. And the price tag could be somewhere around £80 million.

Jacobs posted on X that Bournemouth has been clear with Scott: they don’t want to sell. They even offered him a new contract back in March or April, with talks set to continue this summer. But the club is reportedly okay either way — whether Scott signs a new deal (likely with a release clause) or just plays out his existing one.

That’s not stopping the big clubs from circling.

Who’s actually in the race?

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all have Scott on their radar. But right now, it looks like a two-team fight between the Gunners and United. Jacobs says Andrea Berta has already made an approach for Arsenal and was told Bournemouth doesn’t want to sell. United is expected to explore a move too.

Scott is a versatile midfielder who can play box-to-box or sit deeper. He’s got a bright future, no question. But this summer feels like a crossroads for him. He needs to pick the right situation.

And honestly, one option looks a lot better than the other right now.

Why Arsenal makes more sense

Arsenal just won the Premier League. They’re the reigning champs. They’ve built a culture where young players actually develop — not just get thrown in and forgotten. Scott could step into a key role while learning from Declan Rice, who’s basically the gold standard for an elite midfielder in this league right now.

United? They’d probably play him a lot too. But let’s be real. It’s been a mess at Old Trafford. High-profile signings go there and regress. The whole operation still feels like a work in progress, and Scott is at a stage in his career where he can’t afford to waste two years in a rebuilding project that might not even work.

Jacobs also mentioned Chelsea and City as admirers, but neither seems to be pushing as hard right now. For Scott, the decision probably comes down to Arsenal or United. And if you’re betting on which club can turn his potential into trophies, north London is the safe money.

We’ll see how this plays out in the coming days. Bournemouth isn’t rolling over, but £80 million is a lot of money for a club that knows it might lose him eventually anyway.
