Crysencio Summerville is still a Manchester United target. And now, thanks to West Ham’s relegation, he’s a lot cheaper than he was a few months ago.
According to TeamTalk, a clause in Summerville’s contract cut his release fee from around $70 million to roughly $40 million after West Ham dropped to the Championship. That’s a $30 million discount for a winger who just lit up the World Cup for the Netherlands.
United have held initial talks. But nothing’s really moving yet. And that might be because Summerville’s future is tied to Marcus Rashford’s.
If Rashford leaves this summer, United will need a natural left winger. Michael Carrick’s squad doesn’t really have one otherwise. And INEOS probably doesn’t want to go into next season with that kind of hole in the lineup. So Summerville makes sense.
He’s the kind of player Ronald Koeman raves about. Koeman called his work ethic exceptional. And Summerville backed that up with four goal involvements at the World Cup. He was electric. Too good for Championship football, honestly.
West Ham knows it. That’s why the release clause existed in the first place. They expected to keep him or cash in big. But relegation changed the math. Now $40 million is the number. And that’s going to turn heads.
Fulham is already pressing hard. They need to replace Harry Wilson, and Summerville is their top target. So if United waits too long, he could be off to Craven Cottage instead.
Summerville is a tricky one-on-one dribbler who creates chances. He could do on the left what Amad and Bryan Mbeumo already do on the right. If United pulls this off, their attack could be dangerous from both flanks.
But none of this happens unless Rashford goes first. Or unless INEOS decides to act fast and just sign the guy anyway. Either way, the discount is real. The question is whether United will take it.
