Five-Star WR Xavier Sabb Picks Oregon Over Alabama Family Ties

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning just landed another big one. Five-star wide receiver Xavier Sabb announced his commitment to the Ducks on Friday, choosing them over UCLA, LSU, and Tennessee. Sabb made the call live on the Rivals YouTube channel after finishing official visits to Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, and UCLA this spring. The Ducks got the last visit and it paid off.

Sabb is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver from Glassboro High School in New Jersey. ESPN ranks him No. 20 overall and the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2027 class. The Rivals Industry Ranking puts him at No. 32 overall and also No. 5 at his position. On3 agrees with No. 32 overall, No. 5 receiver, and No. 2 in New Jersey. This kid can flat-out play.

This commitment is Oregon’s third pledge in three days. They got five-star cornerback Hayden Stepp and four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr. earlier this week. The Ducks now have 24 commitments from 17 different states. Their recruiting class is ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in some rankings and sits at No. 6 in ESPN’s 2027 class rankings as of Friday.

What made Sabb choose Oregon? He said it’s the relationship with Lanning and wide receivers coach Ross Douglas. Sabb told reporters he’s known Lanning since he was a freshman in high school. That connection just kept growing. Oregon stayed in touch the whole time, including visits to Eugene in 2025 and again in June 2026 before that final official visit.

Sabb Paves His Own Path

This is interesting because Sabb has serious family ties to Alabama. His older brothers, Keon Sabb and Amari Sabb, both play for the Crimson Tide. Keon transferred there after starting his college career at Michigan. Amari joined Alabama as a 2026 recruit. But Xavier decided to do his own thing. Nothing wrong with that.

Sabb’s junior season at Glassboro was ridiculous. Playing receiver and safety, he helped the Bulldogs win a second straight state title. He won New Jersey Gatorade Football Player of the Year and made another USA TODAY New Jersey All-State team. On offense, he caught 59 passes for 897 yards and 13 touchdowns. On defense, he had 15 tackles and four interceptions. Plus two special teams touchdowns. For his career, Sabb has 2,348 receiving yards and 44 touchdowns with 13 interceptions on defense.

This guy is explosive. He’s scored touchdowns as a receiver, return man, and even running back. He also plays basketball and runs track. Sabb is a 1,000-point scorer in basketball and qualified for the New Balance Nationals in both the 100-meter dash and high jump. That speed translates directly to the football field.

Sabb is Oregon’s second five-star receiver in the 2027 class, joining Dakota Guerrant. He also joins receiver Malachi Garlington and tight ends Anthony Cartwright and George VanSandt. That’s a loaded group of future pass catchers. They could eventually pair up with five-star quarterback commit Will Mencl. The Ducks are stockpiling talent.
