A Madison Square Garden Worker Trolled Swifties With a 15-Year-Old T-Shirt and the Internet Lost It

There’s a wedding happening at Madison Square Garden in a few days. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are the couple. The venue is booked. The rehearsal dinner is set for about 100 people. Friday’s main event is expected to draw more than 1,000 guests and run from 4 p.m. EST until 4 a.m. on July 4. It’s supposed to be one of the biggest celebrity events of the year.

So when a photo started circulating online of a worker unloading materials outside the Garden — wearing a T-shirt that said “Taylor Swift Carpenters” on the back — people understandably lost their minds. The picture went viral fast. Swifties started spinning theories about what kind of elaborate stage setup or castle-like structure was going up inside the arena.

Here’s the thing, though. That shirt wasn’t new. It wasn’t some custom-made crew gear for the wedding. It was a leftover from the Speak Now World Tour in 2011. A fan page called The Taylor Swift Updates eventually set the record straight, posting: “The guy got all of us in trap, it’s a t-shirt from the Speak Now World Tour 2011.”

And according to fans in the comments, the worker knew exactly what he was doing. He probably knew the internet would run with it. He let it happen. Smart troll, honestly.

The wedding itself is happening nearly a full year after Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on social media. They’d been dating for about two years before that. And the timing is interesting — Kelce just re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year deal after a rough 2025 season. The team went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time since Patrick Mahomes became the starter. Kelce thought about retiring but decided to come back. Now he’s getting married a couple of months before training camp starts.

So yeah, the wedding is real. The venue is real. But that carpenter shirt was just a prank from a guy who probably got a good laugh out of the whole thing. Respect.
