Manchester United Eye Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde as Luke Shaw’s Long-Term Successor

Manchester United’s search for a future left-back is picking up speed. And with Luke Shaw’s injury history becoming a real concern for the INEOS brass, the club is already lining up alternatives.

Shaw started every Premier League game last season, which sounds great until you remember that’s the exception for him, not the rule. The guy has missed chunk after chunk of campaigns with various knocks. So the front office is thinking ahead.

Michael Carrick will give academy kids Diego Leon and Harry Amass real minutes this preseason to see if either can claim the spot. But if those young guys don’t seize the moment, United has a shortlist ready to go.

Hall Is the Priority. Balde Is the Backup Plan.

Newcastle’s Lewis Hall sits at the top of that list. The England international reportedly wants a move to a Champions League club, and United fits that description. But Newcastle isn’t going to make this easy. They’ll demand a premium, and they can afford to wait.

That’s where Alejandro Balde comes in. According to i News, the Barcelona left-back is on United’s radar as a genuine alternative. The 22-year-old Spaniard could be available for around £43 million. That’s significantly less than what Hall would cost.

Balde’s minutes dropped off after January at Barca. When a young player at a club with financial problems starts seeing less playing time, the math gets simple. He could want out.

And here’s the interesting part: Barcelona wants to work out another loan deal for Marcus Rashford. United could use that as a bargaining chip to knock a few million off Balde’s price tag. It’s not the kind of leverage you get every day.

What Balde Brings

The guy is explosive. Pure pace, loves carrying the ball forward, and he’d immediately upgrade the left flank which Carrick has been desperate to fix. United’s attack has felt lopsided for a while, mostly going through the right side. Balde could balance that out.

He’s not Premier League proven, which usually gives INEOS pause. They tend to prefer guys who’ve already done it in England. But Balde’s potential is the kind of thing that makes you reconsider your whole philosophy. At 22, he could be the starter for the next decade.

Whether United actually pulls the trigger depends on how much they trust the academy kids and how hard Newcastle plays hardball on Hall. But Balde is firmly on the board, and the price tag makes him a lot easier to justify than some other options out there.
