West Ham’s Relegation Could Hand Manchester United a Discounted Crysencio Summerville

Manchester United are poking around the wreckage of West Ham United’s relegation, and the name that keeps coming up is Crysencio Summerville. The 24-year-old Dutch winger caught the eye even as the Hammers tumbled out of the Premier League last season, and now it sounds like United want to see if they can get him on the cheap.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke said on the Transfer Insider podcast that United have Summerville on their target list this summer. West Ham are trying to balance the books after going down, which means they’re basically holding a fire sale. O’Rourke name-dropped midfielder Mateus Fernandes as another player the Red Devils might go after in a package deal. According to O’Rourke, United are “very much interested” but it’ll come down to price and whether both clubs can make a deal happen.

What Summerville Brings to the Table

Summerville put up seven goals and five assists across 34 matches last season in all competitions. That’s not bad for a guy playing on a team that couldn’t stay up. He’s got real pace on the left wing, can shoot from distance, and he’s shown he can create chances for others. He’s already experienced in the Premier League, which means he wouldn’t need a long adjustment period the way some overseas signings do.

His contract at the London Stadium runs through 2029, which is the obvious complication. West Ham aren’t in a position to demand top dollar given their situation, but they’re not going to just give him away either. United would need to negotiate a fee that makes sense for both sides.

The Michael Carrick Factor

United boss Michael Carrick is in charge of building out an attack that’s been inconsistent at best. Summerville would add depth and genuine competition for a starting spot on the wing. At 24, his best years are still ahead of him, which is exactly the kind of profile United have been targeting in recent windows. They’re not looking for short-term fixes. They want guys who can grow into the role.

The question is whether United can get this done without overpaying. West Ham know they’re vulnerable, but they also know United have the cash. This could drag out a bit.

For now, Summerville is a name to watch. If the price drops enough, Carrick might pull the trigger before other clubs start circling.
