Inter Milan Ready to Sell Frattesi to Bankroll a Better Offer for Liverpool’s Jones

Inter Milan isn’t backing off Curtis Jones. After getting two bids rejected this summer, the Italian club is circling back with a plan that relies on moving one of their own pieces first.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter is looking to sell midfielder Davide Frattesi to Nottingham Forest for around £26 million. That cash would go straight toward a new offer for the Liverpool academy product, who the Nerazzurri value at £35 million. Forest sees Frattesi as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is reportedly Manchester City’s top midfield target this window.

Liverpool has grown visibly frustrated with how Inter is handling this. The club has made it clear they won’t sit down to negotiate unless the offer is meaningfully higher than what’s already been rejected. Jones has one year left on his contract, which normally would put the selling club in a weaker position. But Liverpool seems willing to let him walk for nothing next summer rather than take a discount now.

Jones made only 28 starts across all competitions last season. He has said he is open to leaving his boyhood club to get more consistent minutes. And while Liverpool hasn’t ruled out offering him an extension, those talks aren’t expected to start until later this year.

What Happens If Jones Leaves

If Jones goes, Liverpool will likely look to bring in another midfielder. They have been linked with Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and have also checked in on Mateus Fernandes. But Tottenham and Manchester United are reportedly ahead of them in the race for West Ham’s star midfielder, so the Reds might need to pivot to other targets.

One thing that works in Inter’s favor is that Jones is interested in the move. But the gap between what Liverpool wants and what Inter is willing to pay is still real. Selling Frattesi would get them closer, not all the way there.

Tottenham has also been mentioned as a possible destination for Jones, though they are currently focused on trying to land Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United. That could leave the path a little clearer for Inter if they can find the money fast enough.
