Beckham Has Already Pitched Miami to Mbappe. Now the World Cup Star Is Talking.

Kylian Mbappe just teased something a lot of MLS fans have been dreaming about. And he made it sound like more than a casual throwaway line.

The French superstar is currently tearing it up at the World Cup being co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He already has two goals in the tournament and is chasing the all-time scoring record. But when a reporter in Philadelphia asked about a future move to Major League Soccer, Mbappe didn’t brush it off.

He said David Beckham has been in his ear about it. Multiple times.

“David Beckham mentioned that to me many times. We will see, I don’t know,” Mbappe said, according to Fabrizio Romano. “The American culture is different, there are no limits to ambitions, I like it.”

That last part about American culture and ambition is interesting. It’s not just a polite non-answer. Mbappe specifically called out the mentality he sees across the Atlantic. And Beckham — part-owner of Inter Miami — has clearly been working him behind the scenes.

Let’s be real. Inter Miami signing Lionel Messi last year changed everything for MLS. It turned the league into a legitimate destination for players in their prime, not just aging legends collecting a final paycheck. Messi put butts in seats and eyes on screens. His arrival raised the profile of American soccer globally in a way nothing else had.

Mbappe is 27. He’s at Real Madrid. He’s arguably the best player in the world right now. If he ever decides to leave Europe, he’d be the single biggest signing in MLS history. Bigger than Messi? Different conversation. But the impact would be massive.

And Beckham knows it.

Mbappe Has Other Priorities Right Now

For the moment, Mbappe is locked in on this World Cup and his career with Real Madrid. He scored twice in France’s opener against Senegal. That brings his career World Cup total to 14 goals. He’s now two behind the all-time record held by Miroslav Klose and Lionel Messi — who tied the mark with a hat trick against Algeria in this tournament’s first matchday.

Mbappe was asked about chasing Messi’s record. His answer was predictably chill.

“I knew that Leo Messi was going to score goals, he always scores,” Mbappe said. “I’m going to keep scoring goals to help my team go as far as possible. And of course, by scoring, I’ll get closer to the record.”

So no, he’s not packing his bags for South Beach tomorrow. But the fact that he’s publicly acknowledging Beckham’s pitch? That’s a signal worth paying attention to. MLS has been trying to shed its reputation as a retirement league. Landing a player like Mbappe — still very much in his prime — would shatter that perception for good.

Beckham has already pulled off one impossible signing. Nobody thought Messi would actually leave Europe for Miami. Then he did. If anyone can make Mbappe the next chapter of that story, it’s probably the guy who owns the team and has been texting him for years.
