Yordan Alvarez Told the Astros’ Front Office Exactly What He Wants for His Career

Yordan Alvarez has spent his entire eight MLB seasons with the Houston Astros. And from the sound of it, he has no plans to change that anytime soon.

When Chandler Rome of The Athletic asked the designated hitter if he could see himself playing his whole career in Houston, Alvarez was blunt about it.

“Yeah,” he said. “Of course.”

That kind of loyalty doesn’t come cheap. Alvarez is under team control through 2028, but that hasn’t stopped fans and media from wondering if the Astros would ever deal their biggest bat. There was chatter earlier this season when Houston stumbled out of the gate. The team looked lost at times and the trade rumors started bubbling up. Alvarez noticed.

He Went Straight to the Source

Instead of ignoring the noise, Alvarez walked into the front office and asked point-blank if he was being shopped. According to Rome, the response he got was definitive: team officials told him they were not going to trade him no matter what happened. A few weeks later, general manager Dana Brown backed that up publicly.

It makes sense. The Astros are sitting at 46-49, which looks ugly but somehow only puts them two games out of the NL West lead. They’re also 1.5 games back of a Wild Card spot. That’s not a team ready to sell off pieces. If anything, they look like buyers ahead of the trade deadline.

And if they want to make a real run, they’ll need Alvarez to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s hitting .310 with an American League-leading 29 home runs and 67 RBIs. The guy is a wrecking ball in the middle of the order.

Alvarez has quietly become one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball. He’s also made it clear where he wants to do his damage. If it’s up to him, those home runs keep flying at Minute Maid Park for a long time.
