Teel, 24, is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks after going down with a left high ankle sprain. That’s his third significant injury in what has become a nightmare 2026 season. He missed the first two months after a Grade 2 right hamstring strain and a right knee LCL sprain. He got back on the field for 19 games. Now he’s back on the IL.

A Rookie Season That Never Really Got Going

When Teel did play, the numbers weren’t pretty. He managed just 12 hits in 63 at-bats with two home runs and 14 RBIs. That’s a .190 average and a .271 on-base percentage. Not what the White Sox were hoping for from a guy they projected as a long-term answer behind the dish.

There was at least one bright spot. Teel played clean defense. Zero errors in 148 total chances. A perfect 100 percent fielding percentage. That kind of reliability matters for a pitching staff chasing a division title. But if he can’t stay on the field, it doesn’t help much.

What the Trade Market Looks Like

The rumor mill is already buzzing about three All-Star caliber catchers who could be available before the deadline. The White Sox are reportedly asking around. Nothing is guaranteed, but the need is real.
