Victor Osimhen Just Hinted He’s Staying at Galatasaray. United Might Have to Move On.

Manchester United’s summer striker search just hit a major roadblock. And it came straight from the player himself.

Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian forward who has been tearing it up in Turkey for two seasons now, basically told reporters this week that he’s not planning on going anywhere. Speaking to Turkish outlet Fanatik, he said: “We’ve been promoting the Turkish League to the world for years. We’re raising the profile of both the country and the league. Next season we’ll be even better and represent Galatasaray even better.”

That’s not exactly the kind of language you use when you’re angling for a move to the Premier League.

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in the summer of 2024. That first season, he helped them win the league and the Turkish Cup. The club made the move permanent. And last season he bagged 22 goals and 8 assists across all competitions, helping the Lions defend their title. He’s under contract until 2029.

United have been watching him. Of course they have. After spending over £200 million last summer on a rebuilt attack — Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha — the Red Devils jumped from 44 goals in 38 league games to 69. Third place in the table. Champions League back at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes set a Premier League record with 21 assists.

It was a good year. But Michael Carrick’s squad still needs depth, especially if they’re going to compete on multiple fronts. And a striker to share the load with Sesko makes sense on paper.

Then Galatasaray reportedly slapped a £150 million price tag on Osimhen. That alone was enough to give United pause. Now the player himself is talking about staying, about representing the club even better next season, about the best atmosphere in the world being in their stadium. He said: “I’ve missed my team and my fans so much. You can come and see for yourselves. Everyone says so.”

So what’s the move here? United could pivot. There’s been chatter about West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville as an alternative. And with the way the market works, once a player starts talking like Osimhen did, trying to force a transfer becomes a lot harder. Especially when the selling club doesn’t need the money and the player isn’t pushing for an exit.

United’s attack is already in better shape than it was two years ago. But adding another elite finisher would have been a statement. For now, that statement might have to wait.
