Tennessee State Swaps Under Armour for Nike in a Multi-Year Deal

Tennessee State is done with Under Armour. The university announced a new multi-year partnership with Nike, making the sportswear giant the official provider of uniforms, apparel, and footwear for all Tigers athletic programs. A chunk of the deal will be handled by BSN SPORTS, the team outfitter that helps schools with logistics and product distribution.

The move ends Tennessee State’s long-running relationship with Under Armour, which had been the Tigers’ gear supplier for years. Now every Tennessee State student-athlete and coach will be wearing the Swoosh, and fans will get more Nike-branded merchandise hitting the shelves too.

Dr. Mikki Allen, Tennessee State’s athletic director, framed this as a signal of where the program is headed. “Nike is one of the most iconic brands in sports, and we are proud to partner with them as we continue to elevate Tennessee State Athletics,” Allen said. “This partnership represents our commitment to providing a first-class experience for our student-athletes while strengthening the visibility and identity of the TSU brand on a national level.”

Allen didn’t stop there. He called it a bet on sustained growth, not just a logo swap. “Tennessee State University has a rich athletic tradition and a passionate fan base,” he added. “We are excited to begin this new era with Nike and BSN SPORTS as we continue building momentum for the future of Tiger Athletics.”

Timing is everything

This news drops right as Tennessee State is riding its best stretch in years. The football team won a share of the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference championship in Eddie George’s final season as head coach, then punched a ticket to the FCS Playoffs. That was George’s last act at TSU. He left to take over at Bowling Green, and the school brought in veteran HBCU coach Reggie Barlow to run things.

It wasn’t just football making noise. The men’s basketball program, led by head coach Nolan Smith, had a genuinely historic year. They won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and earned a spot in March Madness. For a program that’s often played second fiddle to bigger-name HBCU schools, that tournament appearance meant something real.

So the Nike deal comes at a moment when Tennessee State has actual wins to point at. Not just history, but momentum. The kind that makes a brand like Nike want to get involved. For the Tigers, it’s a chance to keep that energy going — new gear, new coach, new visibility. We’ll see if the on-field results follow.
