Steph Curry Isn’t Leaving Golden State. Here’s What the Warriors Do Next.

The idea of Stephen Curry finishing his career somewhere else has been floating around the internet for a while now. And according to one NBA insider, you can stop worrying about it.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel put it plainly: Curry is not going anywhere. Not now. Not before he retires. The chatter that he might need to leave the Bay Area to chase another ring? That’s just chatter.

Obviously there’s a reason people started talking. The Warriors have been hunting for a second star to pair with Curry and keep this thing alive. The biggest name on their wish list was LeBron James. And that pursuit seems to have gone cold. LeBron is not coming to Golden State this summer. So what now?

The Warriors are stuck between now and later

Golden State isn’t exactly swimming in options. The trade market has already been picked over. Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown — all of those guys already got dealt. The Warriors did bring back Kristaps Porzingis this summer, which gives them some theoretical upside. If Porzingis, Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green can all stay healthy, they’ve got a real shot.

But that’s a big if. Actually, it’s a few big ifs. Porzingis has never played a full healthy season. Butler has missed time in each of the last three postseasons. Green is 36 and grinding through mileage. Basketball isn’t played on paper, and betting on all four of those guys to hold up over 82 games plus a playoff run is a leap of faith, not a plan.

Still, Siegel says the Warriors are committed to winning with Curry. They’re not punting the season. They’re not trading their franchise guy to start over. They just need to figure out another path forward.

What does ‘other plans’ even look like?

That’s the question nobody has answered yet. The free agent market is thin. The trade market is quieter than usual. And the Warriors don’t have a ton of young assets or draft capital left to swing a blockbuster. They might have to get creative. Maybe they go after a tier-two trade target. Maybe they wait until the deadline and see who becomes available. Or maybe they roll with what they’ve got and hope health breaks their way.

One thing that is confirmed: the Warriors’ 2026-27 schedule will be released next month. So at least we’ll know exactly when they’re playing, even if we don’t know exactly how good they’ll be.

For now, Curry stays. The rest is still being figured out.
