The New York Knicks finally did it. And Shaquille O’Neal, of all people, decided to mark the occasion with an AI-generated music video that has the internet feeling some kind of way.
The video, which runs about two minutes and features rapper Cory Gunz, is a full-on celebration of New York’s title run. It shows Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, ESPN commentator Mike Breen, and what sure looks like a digital version of Alicia Keys. Because why not.
Shaq posted it on X with a simple caption: “Brunson and Kat @CoryGunz 🔥 🔥 #NewYork #Knicks”
The responses were fast and not exactly unanimous.
One fan wrote, “With so much negativity, anything repping NY, I’m digging.” Another was less generous: “Shaq, please stop with the AI, LMAO.” Somebody else called it “the sacred timeline.” But plenty of people were harsh. “This is just lazy dog s***,” said one commenter. Another asked, “I’m bringing an umbrella because WTF is this?”
There was also this: “Shaq talked s*** about the Knicks for years, and now does this. Everyone’s trying to monetize from the Knicks winning.”
And honestly? That one is harder to argue with. Shaq has not exactly been a Knicks hype man over the years. But now that they’ve got a ring, he’s out here making AI collabs.
The real celebration is happening Thursday
The Knicks championship parade is scheduled for Thursday, and the city is expected to shut down for it. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the streets. The team has lined up a serious slate of performers too: Alicia Keys, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Mary J. Blige, Wu-Tang Clan, and Q-Tip are all supposed to be there.
So the real party will be live and in-person. The AI stuff? That’s just Shaq being Shaq. You either laugh or you mute it. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground.
Either way, the Knicks are champions. That part is not up for debate. Everything else is just noise.
